What is Chiropractic?

At its core, Chiropractic is an allied health discipline which focuses on the body’s inherent ability to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractors focus on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system, correcting misalignments in the spine to help relieve pain and restore proper movement and function to the body.

The term “Chiropractic” comes from the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (practice). This describes the way that Chiropractors treat, using their hands to perform adjustments (manipulations) to the spine. These adjustments are quick movements applied to the spine and other joints in the body to help restore proper movement, and nowadays can be applied either with the Chiropractors hands or with a device called an Activator.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a therapy which Dr Kade, Dr Lucas or Dr Tyson (Chiropractors) may implement as an adjunct to your care. Dry Needling is the insertion of fine needles into specific spots of pain. These spots are located via palpation and can be found in muscle or tendons. Dry Needling stimulates blood flow to the affected area and may assist in decreasing muscle tension and pain. In a Dry Needling appointment, Dr Kade, Dr Lucas or Dr Tyson (Chiropractors) will perform dry needling along with soft tissue and/or adjustments to help effectively heal tissue and relieve pain.

Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage is a form of therapeutic soft tissue work that focuses treatment on the particular problem areas, or issues, a person is experiencing. This often involves muscles that have been damaged or are overused due to the person's posture, work or other activities. It may also include work on trigger points; intensely painful knots of muscle that often refer pain to other areas of the body.

Remedial Massage Therapists will work within your comfort levels to manually reduce the tension and stress from these muscles and to increase mobility. Complementary treatments may also be utilised during the massage appointment at the patient's request, or at the recommendation of the Remedial Therapist.

Naturopathy and Medical Science

Naturopathy is a health science involving the analysis and treatment of the body as a whole, to address the root cause of disruptive symptoms and conditions. A Clinical Naturopath may perform medical testing to determine if food allergies, vitamin or mineral deficiencies, or hormonal imbalances are factors in your health issues while also examining the effect of outside factors, such as stress, on health conditions.

The individually tailored treatment following a consultation with a Clinical Naturopath may involve the prescription of herbal or other natural supplements, homeopathic remedies, IV vitamin therapies, and nutritional advice, although other strategies may also be recommended.

We are happy to host Rowena Kissun, principal Integrative Medicine Practitioner of Kissun Clinics Whitsundays at the clinic. Rowena holds university qualifications in Medical Science, Medicinal Chemistry, Herbal Medicine & Nutrition, with extensive experience in all of these fields.
